Current Flooding in the RDN
The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) has lands prone to seasonal flooding, particularly low lying Coastal areas and near rivers and streams. At this time, the RDN has received reports of localized flooding in the French Creek, Qualicum River and Coombs areas. In response to this and to be proactive, a Level 1 Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) has been activated to monitor the situation and provide assistance to residents as required. Sandbags and sand have been delivered to the Coombs and Dashwood Fire halls and are available to the public.
Dashwood FirehallResidents are advised they need to fill and place sandbags on their own. It takes about two people about 1 hour one to fill and place 100 sandbags, giving you a 1-foot-by-20-foot wall. Make sure you have enough sand, sandbags, shovels and time to prepare properly. If you require assistance filling and placing sandbags please contact your neighbours, family and friends.
