First RDN Rebate of 2018 Now Open - Woodstove Exchange Program

Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) residents looking to upgrade their woodstove to a newer model that meets today's environmental standards have the opportunity to receive a rebate from the Regional District of Nanaimo or the City of Nanaimo beginning January 15, 2018 while funds are available.

This year, the BC Provincial government has increased the incentive structure from $250 to $400. The new incentive is designed to provide increased incentives for cleaner burning fuel sources. If you exchange an old woodstove for electric, gas, propane, or pellet-heating appliance, you are eligible to receive $400. If you exchange an old wood stove for a new EPA compliant woodstove, you are eligible to receive $250.

"It is clear that local governments around the Province are committed to improving air quality in their communities," stated RDN Board Chair Bill Veenhof. "The RDN is pleased to bring this popular rebate program back for our residents in 2018 as it supports our focus on protecting and enhancing our local environment."

The British Columbia Lung Association administers the wood stove exchange program on behalf of the Province and provides educational materials and support to participating communities. The RDN is committed to providing educational resources and workshops in the Region which will be held later this year.

For more information, a list of participating retailers and to see if you qualify, visit www.rdnrebates.ca. For City of Nanaimo residents they can find more information and details at www.nanaimo.ca.

The RDN offers a variety of rebates and incentives annually related to green building incentives and water. Funds are limited and are provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Be sure to act early to avoid disappointment. Details on current program status, values and how to apply can be found at www.rdnrebates.ca.
