NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN pursuant to Section 464(2) and 467 of the Local Government Act, that the requirement for a public hearing has been waived in connection with proposed bylaw "Regional District of Nanaimo Land Use and Subdivision Amendment Bylaw No. 500.418, 2018" ("Bylaw 500.418"), because an Official Community Plan applies to the area that is subject to Bylaw 500.418 and the Regional District of Nanaimo Board of Directors considers Bylaw 500.418 to be consistent with "Regional District of Nanaimo Electoral Area 'H' Official Community Plan Bylaw No. 1335, 2017".

Bylaw 500.418 affects the property located at Pitt Road and Shaughnessy Drive in Electoral Area 'H', legally described as Lots 1 and 2, District Lot 36, Newcastle District, Plan 2076, Except That Part Shown Outlined in Red on Plan 1104-R and Except That Part Lying North of the Island Highway as Said Highway is Shown on Said Plan (see location map below) and received first and second reading at the June 26, 2018 Board meeting. The Regional District of Nanaimo is providing notice of its intent to consider third reading of Bylaw 500.418 at its regular Board meeting to be held at 7:00 pm on July 24, 2018 in the Board Chambers located at 6300 Hammond Bay Road, Nanaimo.

What is the Zoning Amendment about?

The purpose of Bylaw 500.418 is, at the owner's application, to rezone the northern portion of the subject properties from Residential 2 (RS2) Zone to a Comprehensive Development Zone, under the "Regional District of Nanaimo Land Use and Subdivision Bylaw No. 500, 1987", to allow a 40 unit seniors supportive housing development.

A copy of the Amendment Bylaw and Board resolution waiving the Public Hearing, and other relevant documents may be inspected during regular business hours prior to the Board meeting at the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) office at 6300 Hammond Bay Road, Nanaimo. Office hours are Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, with extended business hours until 5:30 pm on Wednesdays.
